    Your Itinerary at a Glance

This Costa Rica program gets you and your students involved in local development and social initiatives that promote sustainability.

You’ll stay in Herradura, a rural town near Chirripo National Park in the Talamanca Mountains. You’ll work with the Asociacion de Desarollo Integral (ADI), a co-op that oversees local affairs in Herradura.

Your goal is to help the ADI improve the community’s quality of life through a range of initiatives and projects, all while being totally immersed in Spanish.

Your students will come away not only near-fluent but also with a great appreciation of what it takes to be the change you want to see in this world.

Of course, as a reward for all this great work we’ve woven elements of our classic Costa Rica program, with day trips and overnight excursions to all the greats, such as:

    • Safaris through the Tilaran Mountains and Rio Tarcoles, home to over 400 plant and animal species. Keep your eyes peeled for the biggest crocodile in Costa Rica!
    • Coffee plantation tours to learn about production methods and how the world-conquering bean has shaped Costa Rica’s culture.
    • Workshops dedicated to – *drumroll please* – chocolate! A local guide will reveal the secrets of transforming cocoa into chocolate before setting the stage for a delicious taste-test.
    • Epic river rafting down the Sarapiqui River, a safe yet thrilling ride featuring dozens of toucans and other rare bird species.
    • An unforgettable day at Manuel Antonio Park, host to monkeys, sloths, and some of the most beautiful protected beaches in the world.
    • A day trip to Arenal National Park, where the naturally-heated Baldi Thermal Baths will melt the world away.
